I have always supported the arts and included art in my life in some way. I had a natural inclination toward design and color and put myself through college doing window displays. While earning my degree to teach English, I was able to take one art class in my senior year, which was the highlight of my entire college career.

 

After graduating, I took many different art classes:  in pottery, stained glass, crafts, oil and acrylic painting, art appreciation, creative writing and more.   Basically every type of “art” has a special place in my heart.  It makes me happy.  Art museums, exhibits and events have drawn me and my family in throughout our travels.

 

Most recently, I began taking classes at the Ogden Nature Center, the Eccles Art Center and eventually  here in the Valley with our Mountain Arts and Music programs.  I began falling in love with watercolors with Terry Johnson and have been only using that medium for the past four or five years.  Terrece Beasley at Eccles has helped my technique evolve, and Jennifer Sorenson and Lori Thomas have helped me understand drawing and design and the importance of really looking and planning what to do.  It is so helpful to be given advice and demonstrations about the magic of watercolor.

 

I like to paint a variety of subjects and enjoy the challenge of figuring out how to do it in watercolor.  I’m just a beginner, but have certainly enjoyed the journey and hope to continue to do so for many years to come.
